Formed in April 2022 just two weeks before their debut performance at their high school, Shelburne's Centre Dufferin District High School, the Matlockes quickly created a musical force to be reckoned with. Receiving an overwhelming amount of positivity and love following their performance, the five young musicians knew that this was the beginning of an incredible journey.​

Drawing some inspiration from popular rock and metal bands such as Greta Van Fleet, Foo Fighters, and Black Sabbath, the Matlockes have elements of rock, metal, punk, and alternative genres in their songs, bringing together their individual influences to create a sound that is uniquely theirs.

 

Winning the Dufferin Rising Star contest in 2022 gave the Matlockes their start, and since then, the band has performed at many local events and fundraisers, as well as over a dozen different venues across southern Ontario. In May of 2026, the Matlockes brought their music to the stage of the legendary Horseshoe Tavern, where they paid tribute to The Tragically Hip by performing one of their favourite covers: New Orleans Is Sinking. In August of the same year, the band rocked the main stage at Gussapolooza Music Festival, competing in the Rock 95 Homegrown Battle of the Bands to kick off the weekend. Alongside their good friends in vintage rock trio Mirrage, the Matlockes also co-headlined the first ever Wasaga Sound Music Festival.

Throughout their journey, the Matlockes have had dozens of incredible opportunities to connect with other independent artists and music lovers within their community, which is something they feel very passionate about. The band has formed lasting friendships with artists and fans alike, and are always making new connections with so many wonderful people.

 

Steven, Evan, Colt, Cole, and Dylan consider each other more than just bandmates, but rather close friends, and even brothers. Their bond adds to the emotions behind their songs, their electric stage presence, the magnetic pull audiences feel to their music, and the passion that drives them.

 

During their time together as a band, the Matlockes have continued to receive immense amounts of love and support from family, friends, and fans, something they are beyond grateful for. Following the release of three singles to all major music streaming platforms, the band finally released their debut album Welcome To The Show after four years of work on February 13th, 2026. The Matlockes continue their journey with new music on the horizon and their vision set to the stars.
